Public vs Private

Default to public channels. Private communication is acceptable for: personal privacy, contract details, personnel changes.

Decisions made in private must be summarized in a public channel. Share the conclusion only — the process does not need to be shared.

Documentation Principle

Conclusions from verbal discussions are written back into documents. If it is not written in a document, it does not exist.

Specific requirements:

  • Within 24 hours after a meeting, the initiator writes conclusions into the relevant project document or handbook page
  • Agreements reached in instant messages must be documented by the parties involved
  • After a document is updated, post a link in the public channel — no additional explanation needed
